There were announced results of the Russian competition of student works in universal design and barrier-free city space for people with limited mobility. The competition took place on September 04, 2014 in Moscow, “VKHUTEMAS” gallery. Two teams presented Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering at the competition and both became winners.
The competition was sponsored by the Russian union of disabled people, the National union of engineering designers, Moscow public chamber, International association of architectural and engineering higher education institutions, Council of Moscow architects, Association of higher education institutions of architecture and civil engineering, Moscow institute of architecture, Higher school of environment design MARKHI and etc.
This is the first Russian competition on adaptation of architecture monuments for people with limited mobility which was founded by the National charity fund “A city free of barriers”.
52 teams participated in the competition and only 10 of them went into a second round, including two teams from Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering. According to the results they had the first and the second places.
Participants had to design a project for adaptation of buildings and territories of the museum complex of the World War I located in museum “Tsarskoe selo” for all groups of people with limited mobility.
Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering was presented by two teams of the faculty of architecture: chair of architectural design and chair of architectural and urban building heritage. Two completely different projects were prepared. One team proposed a more creative design: they used a bigger space of the museum complex, used ground floor space and watchtower. Project prepared by the chair of architectural and urban building design was based on the museum activity technology. “We didn’t want to change the museum, - says supervisor of the group L.L. Kaloshina. – We wanted to preserve everything as it is now, but at the same time to adapt the environment for people with limited mobility. Main idea of our project was to provide such a space where these people would feel comfortable moving together with other people during an excursion.
According to the results of the competition first prize was granted to students of SPSUACE Andrey Shcherbak, Margarita Shchigoleva, Serafima Ivanova, Olga Zemskaya and their supervisor professor O.P. Fedorova (chair of architectural design). Second team of our university (supervisor is senior professor of the chair L.L. Kaloshina, students Dmitry Rukavishnikov, Lilia Farkhutdinova, Oksana Andrianova, Dmitry Sokolov) was awarded a special prize.
