Reconstruction and Restoration of Architectural Heritage

On March 20, 2019, SPbGASU held an all-Russian scientific conference with international participation ‘Reconstruction and Restoration of Architectural Heritage’ with guests from Uzbekistan, Spain, and Italy.

The conference work was going on five sections: Historical City Sustainable Growth, Restoration Experience, Cultural Heritage Conservation, Restoration Architect Education, History and Theory of Architecture.

Irina R. Lugovskaya, SPbGASU First Vice Rector, greeted the participants: ‘I am happy to welcome you at SPbGASU on behalf of Rector Evgeny I. Rybnov and our numerous staff. Architectural heritage is our present and future, and we express our deepest gratitude to everyone who is involved in it theoretically and practically, because they do meticulous work of mind and hands.

Sergey Sementsov, Doctor of Architecture, Professor, Head of the Department of Architectural and Urban-Planning Heritage, noted that Restoration Architect education supervisors from different universities annually gather together at the conference. They discuss architectural heritage restoration and reconstruction issues, personnel problems, and continuous professional development.

The participants discussed the reports on the following topics:

  • Historical and cultural potential of small medium-sized settlements in mid-Ob river areas,
  • Objects of legal protection, such as complex settlements,
  • Historical composition and space system of Petrovsky island,
  • Protection of historical city, its architecture and landscape,

and more.

Natalya Borovikova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Architecture and Restoration (Novosibirsk State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering) opened Historical City Sustainable Growth section with a report about development scenarios for architectural and industrial space in an industrial city.

The participants of the conference were:

  • Javier Girón, Deputy Director of Research and Doctorate, the Madrid School of Architecture, UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid),
  • Javier Gutiérrez Mosteiro, director of the Heritage Master, the Madrid School of Architecture, UPM.
