Bashkan (President) of Gagauzia met representatives of Gagauz diaspora in SPSUACE

On 26th May, 2018 a meeting of representatives of Gagauz diaspora with Bashkan (President) of Gagauzia Irina F. Vlah took place in the St.-Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering.

More than 200 representatives of Gagauz diaspora in Petersburg, a lot were with the whole families, came on the meeting . Met with bread-salt and national dishes, visitors spent a lively evening. After a small concert of Gagauz stars before visitors the head of the republic spoke. In her live, emotional speech with impressing figures Irina Vlah told about today's position of the republic, about positive shift in economy and social sphere. This small southern area of Moldova is surviving and developing dynamically thanks to initiative of the government and a big help of many regions of Russia where superiority belongs to St.-Petersburg. From the Petersburg international economic forum the Gagauz delegation left with a whole package of contracts on economic and cultural cooperation with present and new partners, first of all, Russia.

Gagauzia is an independent territorial formation in the south of Moldova with the population more than 130 thousand people. It is created from settlements in which today more than 80 % inhabitants make Gagauz people, and also Bulgarians, Moldavians, Russian and Ukrainians.

In December, 1994 the parliament of Moldova passed the Law on a special legal status of Gagauzia (Gagauz-Eri) which allocated the region with compact residing of Gagauz people by the rights of an autonomy.
