Students of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering pass internship at Krakow

On July 08, 2016 students of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering returned from the internship, which had taken place at the partner university Krakow Polytechnic University (Politechnika Krakowska im. Tadeusza Kościuszki).

Since 1995 between the two universities cooperation agreement has been effective, within the frame of which international education and cultural student exchange has been functioning. The receiving party – Krakow polytechnic university organized a traditionally rich and interesting reception. The internship started at the university with a tour, where several modern laboratories were shown. Great interest was provoked by a recently erected five-story building housing a laboratory, designed and built according to a passive house technology. As a result of this approach, students and researchers can model and explore different modes of operation, examine the work of new energy efficient materials in real time, as well as assess the impact of the microclimate created by human performance. Also unique air conditioning system was introduced, allowing you to create almost any operating conditions of materials and structures.

In addition, the students visited two other laboratories: mechanical, where basic building materials, products and structures are tested; accurate measurement laboratory having a modern equipment allowing you to build extremely detailed three-dimensional models of objects.

On next days, guests could get acquainted with the process of construction and project documentation of the modern hospital complex, as well as talk with the chief engineer of the object. Another interesting object was the gym, which was recognized as energy efficient according to the international standards and certifications.

One more exciting excursion was the one to TPP "Skawina" (generates electricity for the entire region and supplier het to part of Krakow). The station was designed by Soviet engineers. At the end of the education part of the internship there was organized a visit to the plant manufacturing roof windows and attic stairs FAKRO in Nowy Sacz.

The cultural program incuded a fascinating tour to Krakow, a trip to the salt mine "Wieliczka", a hike through the Ojców National Park, a visit to the sources of curative waters in the picturesque suburb of Krakow and the State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau. In order to explore the city foreign colleagues organized a quest for students, in which Polish students, communicating with guests in Russian enriched their vocabulary.

Participating in the internship, the Russian students were able to get acquainted with the beautiful Polish city - Krakow: its culture, architecture, scientific and educational potential. In the next few days guests from Poland will arrive at Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering on a return visit!
