Let’s do a strength test!

On July 05, 2016 at the Centre of mechanic tests of building materials of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering there were investigated engineering products.

Under this investigation, there was studied constructions, which had been developed by “Stroypanel” LLC. The Company provides a whole complex of services in engineering design, manufacture and supply of sandwich panels, constructions of LSTK, decorative facade cassettes of galvanized steel and aluminum. Structural solutions and developments are carried out by long standing partner of “Stroypanel” LLC, which is company “Frame technologies”. “Trying to reach a highest level our production is based not only on calculated indices, but also at tests on the actual units. Producing goods for agricultural complex, we had to work together with Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering. We had to test new light steel thin-walled structures and be confident that it will function in accordance with our calculations”, - said assistant general director of “Stroypanel” LLC Mikhail Ogurtsov.

Technology of prefabricated buildings of light steel thin-walled structures appeared not so long ago. In the middle of the 20th century Canada faced the necessity of providing middle class people with low-rise living buildings which meet engineering norms set for the local climate conditions. Considering the terms and cost of production and construction process, erection of buildings using light steel thin-walled constructions is preferable than construction of timber frame buildings. Therefore, Canada started using the new technology in mass construction.

Today the technology is used in low-rise residential construction (cottages, houses and dachas), construction of commercial sector buildings (administrative buildings, trade complexes, warehouses), erection of production shops and sheds, as well as buildings, used for agriculture (fowl-farms, cowsheds, and granaries), and other little buildings (car washes and gas stations).

During laboratory tests there were analyzed mechanic load stability indices of the new light steel thin-walled constructions. For investigations there was used servo-hydraulic test machine Magnum-2000 кН (200 t), which allows to conduct static and dynamic tests of materials for compression, tension, bending. Assistant general director of “Stroypanel” LLC noted: “We studied the capacities of the Centre of mechanic tests of building materials of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering and chose a device, which can provide a necessary load and accuracy of tests. The given tests show both advantages and disadvantages of the material and the assessment of preliminary results. All this allows defining those indices, which need to be changed in order to improve characteristics of the developed construction. The equipment, which is installed at the laboratory, and the approach of the university to investigations are very important for us”.
