Goods for shipbuilding were tested at the mechanical laboratory of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering

In the mechanical laboratory of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering there were tested Goods for the Federal state enterprise "Krylov’s State Research Center." The studies were conducted within the framework of the program ensuring the construction of modern ships and vessels made of composite materials.

All works shall be conducted using new Equipment – versatile electrical power mechanical machines of Instron. They are used for static tests of standard samples, and elements of constructions while conduction of academic, research, scientific and contract works. The machines allow defining physical and mechanical properties of materials, make tests on bending, compression and break.

There were tested cantilever girders in terms of crack toughness, i.e. crack resistance. Considering that most composite materials break by delamination of one element from another, this feature is extremely important in terms of investigation of construction durability.

In addition, foam samples were tested in shear. As the engineer of the 35th laboratory of "Krylov’s State Research Center" Karen Yeranosyan said that, while working with foam, experts often faced the following problem: when the strength of adhesives, providing a connection between the metal snap and a sample itself, was not sufficient. “As a result, instead of determining the strength characteristics of foam, which implies the destruction of this material, we have destruction of the adhesive layer. However, in earlier tests which were performed in mechanical laboratory of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering we were able to obtain required characteristics of the two samples”, said Karen Yeranosyan.

Representatives of the customer were satisfied with the results of the investigations: "I am satisfied with the work of laboratory of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering. Testing process here is well developed! We see positive results and hope to continue cooperation in future", - said head of the 35th laboratory of " Krylov’s State Research Center "N.N. Fedonyuk.
