The Philologists of Sevastopol State University Study Criticism and Speechwriting
The students of the master’s programme studying at the Department of Linguodidactics and Foreign Philology of the Institute of Humanities and Pedagogy at Sevastopol State University study the nature of languages and the dynamics of their development, learn to understand the functions of the language and its internal structure, and study people through their language. Tatyana Kuzema, a docent, spoke about the "sea of possibilities" for philologists. Students master the system of methodological principles and methodological methods for carrying out philological research, and after graduation they can easily study and analyze texts, mark stylistic features of works, write reviews on them and help a reader better understand what has been read. "Some of the graduates become literary critics or literary scholars, publish reviews in popular and scientific publications, write articles and books based on research results and have a large influence on the formation of readers' preferences in society," said Tatyana Kuzema. Philology graduates work with grammar, syntax, and style, so there is yet another direction - editing or proofreading. Also the master's programme "Philology" is focused on the preparation of teachers of secondary and higher educational institutions: the programme trains future teachers to effectively share subject knowledge with students. Knowledge of foreign languages - at the department of German, English and French - suggests the analysis of artistic features of both Russian and foreign works. Often graduates of the department become linguists, linguistic researchers or teach children and adults a foreign language. "And among our graduates there are press secretaries and speechwriters and specialists in public relations. Our masters adequately represent the university in different aspects of the specialty of a philologist”, said Tatyana.
