Students and the city!

On July 01, 2016 Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering took part in the Russian exhibition of higher education institutions of the capital of the North “Students for the city – 2016”.

The exhibition was organized by the Committee for science and higher school of Saint Petersburg government. One of the main tasks is to analyze contest graduation theses and make reasonable decisions about options of its usage in urban economics and social sphere.

The first contest was held fourteen years ago. Since then over 1 100 projects have been submitted for competition. In 2015-2016 academic year executive state authorities of Saint Petersburg (Committees and District administrations) presented 411 graduation theses for Saint Petersburg Government awards for investigations carried out upon request of the executive state authorities. 26 higher education institutions of Saint Petersburg submitted 300 applications for development of 178 topics of graduation projects. 90 students passed to the final round of the competitions, and only 77 students became laureates of the contest.

The contest took place at Saint Petersburg state university of economics. Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko discussed most remarkable projects with the participants; he visited the exhibitions, which took place at the university library and talked with authors of works, which were exhibited at special boards of a particular higher education institution.

At the contest “Students for the city – 2016” Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering was represented by student of the Faculty of civil engineering Aida Akhmetshina (graduation project “Application of composite materials and products in civil engineering”). Project supervisor is head of the chair of technology of building materials and metrology of the Faculty of civil engineering of Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering Yury V. Pukharenko.

“Topic for my graduation thesis was proposed by the Committee for engineering and was developed upon Saint Petersburg government request. The Contest is aimed at development of our city in area improvement. I made a work in development of a new material – fiber concrete gypsum partition block. There were made tests and basing on them there was developed concrete, reinforced with fiber cellulose. For production of this material fiber it is used fiber cellulose from paper wastage. As this material is economy safe it was decided to manufacture cellulose wool’. Then I developed a project of plant producing wall panels made of this material. Thus, new material and manufacture plant were developed” – said Aida Akhmetshina, contest participant representing Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering.
