SevSU Will Train Specialists In the Whole Cycle of Wine Production‍
In 2019 Sevastopol State University will begin training specialists who are able to control the entire process of wine production from planting vines to bottling. At present specialists are being trained separately in these areas, said Andrei Kuzmin, the head of the scientific and educational center ‘Viticulture and Enology’. A new type of specialist is required at the enterprises of the wine industry of Crimea for its successful development, so graduates of the program will be welcomed. The Crimean peninsula is one of the main wine-making regions of Russia. It was reported earlier that viticulture and winemaking, according to the development strategy of Sevastopol until 2030, are recognized as priority sectors in the city. “We are forming a bachelor academic programme, that will be launched in September 2019. In Russia while winegrowers, agronomists and winemakers-technologists of the food industry are trained separately, we offer to train specialists who are competent in different areas. It is planned that there will be 20 state funded places and students will also be able to study on a commercial basis too. At the same time it is planned that the master programme will have 10 state funded places. We will train managers, specialists for the laying of vineyards and working at wineries and consultants for enterprises”, he said. It is planned to invite teachers from universities in different regions of Russia and foreign specialists, as well as winemakers, winegrowers and businessmen working in the industry, to work with students. Kuzmin noted that additional education programmes will also be developed in the near future - for example, preparing seasonal workers for vineyards. The vice-rector of Sevastopol State University for academic work, Denis Yarygin, said that a distance learning course on viticulture and winemaking is planned to be launched in the spring of 2019. This will be the first programme of this kind at the university.
