A Large Bachelor's Programme at Sevastopol State University Will Train Specialists for the Greater Mediterranean
Students of various fields of study at the Institute of Social Sciences and International Relations at Sevastopol State University will be trained on the basis of a large bachelor’s programme model. "This model is characterized by the conjugation of close but independent directions of study around a single educational core. As a result of mastering the programs of this core a student is not only trained for just one narrow specialty, but becomes an expert capable of asserting themselves in various fields", said Ivan Chikharev, the director of the Institute. According to the model, students will study the following 6 areas: history, linguistics, journalism, political science, advertising and public relations and sociology. Their joint training course will include linguistic, historical, business and cognitive modules as well as a natural science module and ‘Data’, which is unusual for education in humanities. "Within the framework of the linguistic module, students will become acquainted with one ancient language (Latin, Ancient Greek or Old Slavonic), English and one of the languages of the countries of the Greater Mediterranean region. Within the framework of the historic module, priority will be given to the ancient history period of the region. During archeological expeditions, students will be able to immerse themselves in history. This programme will be unique in Russia and will give an understanding of many modern processes to a prospective linguist, political scientist and journalist, " he said. Within the ‘Data’ module, students will study the use of digital technologies in professional activities and learn how to work with large sets of data. A knowledge of geography within the framework of the natural science module will complement the course of regional studies. Within the framework of the business module, project activities and the basics of entrepreneurial activity will be studied. The module "Kogito" will be a base one and within its framework, philosophy, logic, brain science, cognitive science and psycholinguistics will be taught. "We would like our graduates to work in the Greater Mediterranean region where the interests of such large Russian companies as Rostech, Rosatom and other energy companies are concentrated. The humanities specialists that we train will help these companies enter the new market, because they will know and understand the languages and cultures of these countries. Such a specialist can work in tourism, commerce and the sphere of the implementation of infrastructure projects", Chikharev said. According to him the Institute is already negotiating for the internships of its students at RT (Russia Today), radio "Sputnik" and the enterprises of Rostech and Rosatom.
