Virtual and augmented reality is created at the Faculty of Civil Engineering

Yuri Zgoda is an unusual student. He's only eighteen, and he's already completing a Bachelor's degree. On June 22, 2018 Yuri defended his project entitled "Integration of software and hardware virtual and augmented reality in information models of buildings and structures."

At the moment virtual and augmented reality are experiencing a peak of their development, opening up previously inaccessible possibilities for architects. The virtual reality allows the architect to appear inside the projected building before it was erected. Thus, it becomes possible to study the features of the game of light and shadow, various interior options. Augmented reality makes it possible to expand the information content of drawings, schemes, other materials, " – Yu. Zgoda said.

Augmented and virtual reality is not the same thing. By virtual reality we mean a world created by technical means, perceived by a person through his senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch, and others. Augmented reality is the result of introducing in the perception field any sensory data in order to supplement information about the environment and improve the perception of information. Together they create unusual effects that can surprise anyone.

In this paper, we examined the issues of how to obtain a stable high frame rate, high quality of visualization, realistic image. The author created various interactive components – opening doors, controlled lighting sources, the ability to change the time of day.

"When a person is told about the augmented or virtual reality, the first thing that comes to mind is computer games. But now this is not just games - it is also being introduced into the construction industry in the modeling and demonstration of various objects, it is used in various simulators for personnel training, as well as in other advanced fields. Now, the equipment and software for working with virtual reality has become much more accessible, and the technologies of augmented reality can generally fit in the usual modern smart phones. It remains only to master the necessary technology! We are preparing students who can do it." – the talented graduate's story was supplemented by A.A. Semenov, the Head of the Department of Computer Science the Faculty of Civil Engineering of SPSUACE.

The author of another interesting work entitled "Modeling of architectural objects in the superstructure Dynamo Revit" – Victoria Mogilina. Two scripts are programmed in its work. "The first script is designed to build a model of the architectural object – the tower, and it allows you to choose the geometry of the base, the size, the number and height of floors, the gap between the floors. The second script is designed to automate routine processes, in particular, it helps to create a greening of the roofs by bushes, " – Victoria said.
